Apple iPhone 8 Review
As iPhone 10th anniversary is to hold this year, many speculations about the release of the iPhone 8 have been going. We all are looking forward to Apple's next iPhone release probably this September and really hope for something big and cool to honour their 10th anniversary in a grand style.
Apple which started the production of iPhone way back since 2007, has since maintained the ground in good production. The iPhone 8 is really expected to be remarkable because of its redesign and improvements from its predecessors.
The iPhone 8 has been speculated to have names like iPhone Pro, iPhone X, iPhone Edition and iPhone 10.
iPhone 8 Reveal/Release Date
Based on the previous iPhone reveal/release, it can be seen that the reveal/release date of the iPhone 8 is pretty near. Just like iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 which have their reveal date between September 7 - September 12 and the release date between September 16 – September 21 it is believed that the release of the iPhone 8 reveal will definitely fall between September 12 or September 13 while the release date is expected to be September 22 or September 23. Apple has already scheduled an event on 12th September, so we are really expecting some surprise that day.
iPhone 8 Features
One of the biggest features we are expecting in the iPhone 8 is the body-screen ratio, which means the increase in the screen area of the phone. This is feature is expected to take out the normal home button and the fingerprint scanner from the front of the phone.
The iPhone 8 is expected to come with 3D-facial recognition sensors to replace the touch ID. It is also expected to have glass backs for wireless charging, it also has metal sides and dual camera according to dummy versions of the handset.
RAM
The iPhone 8 is expected to come with 3GB RAM just like iPhone 7s Plus, but the iPhone 7s still comes with 2GB RAM. The iPhone is expected to have NAND Flash memory. According to Weibo iPhone, 8 will come with 64, 256 and 512 GB storage capacities.
Display
Apple is also introducing the OLED display technology which is a very improved feature which has been adopted by the likes of Samsung long time ago. The OLED display saves power because the OLED screens produce their own light.
Apple is said to be planning to release three display sizes for iPhone 8 (4.7 inches, 5.5 inches, and 5.8 inches). According to Nekkei, all iPhone release will have the new screen with only iPhone 8 having the OLED display. KGI Securities analyst (Ming-Chi Kuo) said Apple will need to include 3D touch technology with additional graphite sheet lamination so as to reduce heat.
Performance
Just like most major iPhone release like iPhone 7 which runs on System-on-a-chip (SoC) (A10 Fusion Chip), iPhone 8 (though not announced) is expected to run on A11 processor which is a newer SoC processor.
According to Digitimes report in July 2016, Taiwan’s TSMC won the contract for production of the new Chip. The Taiwan company will supply the A11 processor and it is to be built on a 10nm FInFET process.
Let's clarify the 10nm FinFET. 10nm means the process in building the Chip and it has to do with transistor packing. Transistors what really the backbone of computing getting done, this means that the more transistors you have the more task you can achieve simultaneously. The 10nm depicts the number of transistors that can be packed and the lower the number the higher the number of transistors that can be packed. This implies that with high transistors you can boost performance and also enhance power improvement.
Apple iPhone 7 used A10 Fusion with 16nm process, so we are really expecting huge battery improvement and efficiency with the iPhone 8.
Camera
Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has said that Apple iPhone 8 will carry a dual-lens camera but this time the optical image stabilization (OIS) will now come with both lenses (wide-angle and telephoto) which only the wide-angle has currently.
The analyst also reported that the front-facing camera of the iPhone 8 will be have sensing capabilities which can detect the depth, as well as the location of objects in 3D space and this feature, will help in augmented reality applications.
We should also be expecting “FreezeMotion” attribute which detects face scenes, pets, and babies, thereby pointing towards new detection system that can distinguish a fast moving object and also capture the image at a good stance.
Power
There has been the rumour that Apple will add wireless charging to the iPhone 8 owing to the fact that they joined Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) in February. Apple rival Samsung has adopted wireless charging in the Galaxy S7 which uses the Qi wireless standard developed by WPC.
However, from a popular Apple blogger John Gruber, he reported that the wireless charging will not be available until the release of iOS 11 which will be after the launch of iPhone 8. The wireless charging is, however, can be bought separately and incorporated into the models with glass back.
All the three phones to be released by Apple this year is expected to support super fast-charging by the implementation of Type-C Power Delivery technology.
iOS Version
The operating system for the iPhone 8 is actually expected to be the new iOS 11 but the there has not been any official release date for the OS. The release can be after the release of iPhone 8, these show that there is no guarantee of the iPhone 8 coming with the new iOS 11.
However, during the annual WWDC conference in June, Apple showed its latest version of mobile OS, which is iOS 11.
Also, the Siri has been rebranded to keep up to date with its rivals like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. It will be able to pick up your voice and speak out response.
Pricing
There have been speculations concerning the price of the Apple latest iPhone release. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has speculated that the OLED release will cost about $1,000. The New York Times believes Apple will sell the iPhone at $999. There have been rumuors of Apple keeping the price to be competitive with the Samsung Galaxy S8+ which cost around £779. It is also good to note that the iPhone 7 already cost £600, hence we should expect the price of the new iPhone 8 to be a bit high as we expect the features to be tremendous.
Conclusively,
We are yet to see the release of the iPhone 8 but we have also started hearing about the iPhone 9, the iPhone 9 might come with bigger display sizes with the OLED technology.
In 2018 Apple might as well consider implementing Iris scanning along side touch ID. Apple is also rumoured to be patterning with Japan Display in the production of flexible LCD panels that will be due in 2018 and might be used in future iPhone models.
Looking for the iPhone 8 release is good but there are also other good products you can get along with like the Samsung Galaxy S8, HTC U11, LG G6 and much more.
