Aston Martin to Produce a Rival for the Tesla’s Roadster

Aston Martin to Produce a Rival for the Tesla’s RoadsterTesla Roadmaster was introduced in 2006 and has since then gained a rapid increase in popularity. It enjoyed monopoly on electric car sector. The second generation of the car was released last year. The ride which has an average top speed of 250mph and average mile range of 620mi has proven over time to be the best among the electric car family.
Aston Martin recently made known of the company’s intention to produce their own electric ride that will be a rival to the Tesla Company.

Andy Palmer the CEO of Aston Martin said that there are various challenges involved in making an electronic vehicle. Some of the challenges include the battery life, the management, and the chemistry system. This he disclosed during an interview with Auto Express.
Palmer also made known that the other key components of an electric car including weight, aerodynamic drag, and rolling resistance are areas the company is good at mastering. He said the above reason makes them be in a better position to produce a better EV technology than other sports car company such as Tesla.
Aston Martin is reportedly said to be working on bringing its first battery-electric vehicle to the market. The electric vehicle will be based on the Rapide, V12-powered sedan, and will be designed together with the joint venture it formed with China-based LeEco fell apart. Pricing of the vehicle will start at about $250,000 and the global production will be capped at 155 units.

Palmer made it clear that Aston Martin will not implement the plug-in hybrid phase just like Porsche did. “I don’t see the point. You have the complexity and cost of a regular electrified plug-in hybrid engine” Palmer told Auto Express. Aston Martin will rather focus on hybrid drivetrains built around 48-volt architecture.

Tesla has scheduled the first Roadster release on 2020. Maserati also gave tips for considering a battery-powered sports car. McLaren has already started testing an electric power-train for its high-end vehicles.
